With the right help, you can study in Canada as an international student through the IRCC’s pathway
Published by Hillfield Immigration on 12th May, 2021
Students wishing to study by September 2021 can still submit their study permit applications until May 15th and a decision will be made by August 06th. These deadlines are according to Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada.
These deadlines are of course tentative due to the Covid-19 restrictions and reduced services across Canada. For more information on deadlines and how you can apply for a study permit, contact a qualified immigration consultant.
Processing times vary by country and fees are $150CAD. International students applying to the IRCC international student pathway must also give biometrics with their applications but this is not included in the processing time of the student visa application.
WHAT IS A STUDY PERMIT?
A study permit is a government issued document that allows international students to study at a Designated Learning Institution across Canada, including Quebec. International students from most countries need a student visa to travel to Canada and a study permit to attend school in Canada.
Without the study permit, an international student would not be allowed to enter into Canada at any point of entry. You should contact an immigration consultant or firm for more information on entering into Canada as an international student.
GET YOUR STUDY PERMIT FASTER
International students from certain countries may qualify to get their study permit much faster through the IRCC’s Student Direct Stream pathway. This immigration pathway allows students to apply online for their study permit.
HOW LONG CAN YOU STAY IN CANADA?
An immigration expert consultant can provide all the relevant information to you based on your specific information. However, most international students are allowed to stay in Canada for one year if they are taking any prerequisite courses.
If they are then accepted into a main program of study at a Designated Learning Institution, they may then apply to extend their stay as an international student.
CAN YOU RETURN HOME?
International students on a study permit are allowed to leave Canada during their duration at the Designated Learning Institution but may need to show proof that they are enrolled at a Canadian university when they return to a point of entry.
You should travel within the time limits of your study permit or electronic travel authorization so that you can validly return to Canada and apply for an extension of your study permit if you need one.
